How to act like a winner when you feel like a loser?
I promised that I will follow up my original post about business book junkies with books worth reading. I am reading Winning
by Jack Welch right now and it is great. It feels like everybody read it, but me. I’ve been looking for a job, so I’ve started to read from the end of the book about carrier.
I like the paragraph that starts with “How do you act like a winner when you feel like a loser?” Jack’s explanation is pretty similar to my own philosophy. Self-confidence is one of the essentials to move on that road to the top. The true self-confidence is built with time and through achieving of goals. However, there are times when everything you do is failing so how do you keep that confidence? Because you know that if you will loose your confidence then there is a big chance you will not succeed. What I do is exact the same like Jack’s character I go into my “savings account of self-confidence”. This imaginary savings account is composed of all the wins, achievement, and hard times I overcame before in my life. I get my energy for my drive when nothing feeds it daily. Every savings account got to have an interest. So as an “interest” to this account I add how other people treat failures and win.

My inspirations are:
Michael Jordan – who trained everyday two hours before school and wasn’t even first person on a draft to get into NBA.
Dan Jansen – who won the gold medal at Olympics games after years of setbacks and when nobody thought he could do it.

Some quotes that I am guided by are:
“You can do everything right and still loose” Star Treck
“Anybody can commit mistake, but only fool can repeat it twice” Forgot where I heard it
“It is not scary to fall, but it is scary not to get up” again I forgot where I heard it.

Always feel like a winner, and never let anybody take it from you! Leave a comment if you have your own special way of dealing with setbacks and failures.
UPDATE: Check out comment by Becky McCray she seem to be a regular reader, and I read her Small Business Survival Blog she has a whole series about how to handle failures and even leverage them.

I’ve redefined how I think of failure. Larry Wilson and Hersch Wilson put it this way, “I cannot fail. I can only learn and grow.” That has practically become a mantra for me when dealing with an adverse outcome. “I cannot fail. I can only learn and grow.”
I believe in this so much that I did a whole series of failure quotes and writing on failure last month.
