Blog, social media - MarketingProfs still remember

My last post generated a reaction I didn’t expect. I’ve got a couple of emails and Ann Handley from MarketingProfs left a comment. This is pretty significant, because if she could find the post that means that despite my concerns blogs are still interactive and social. However, even though Ann Handley is an example of how blogging should be, I wonder if she is representative of the pro-bloggers population. That’s why I’ve checked my stats and see that there are quite a few people visiting and some subscribing to RSS feed. So I am going to ask you to leave a comment or write me an email in regards to where blogs are moving? Do you have any concerns? Do you see trends you don’t like or you do like? I’ll follow up this topic when I have a more data.

  1. Every time I see someone post ‘content is king’, a gag reflex kicks in. The COMMUNITY is king! I see SO many bloggers that REALLY do a great job with their posts, but they never reach out to their readers.

On BMA I made a point to not only know all my frequent commenters by their first name, and visit and comment on THEIR blogs frequently, but I made a point to periodically leave a post with nothing but the frequent commenters names and links to their blogs, with my encouragement for all our readers to go check out their blogs. For example, 2 of BMA’s frequent commenters are Jordan and JD. The other day I go to Jordan’s blog to leave a comment on one of his posts, and JD has already commented on that same post. I love that, because I know that JD and Jordan, frequent commenters on BMA, found each other’s blogs through BMA, and by my pointing them out to the community.

Because if these people are taking the time away from running their OWN blogs to comment on yours, then the least you can do is encourage their participation, which I am glad to say you are doing with this post.

Most bloggers don’t realize this, good to see you do!

  2. BTW Ann is one sharp cookie, she gets that it’s about the community.

  3. Thanks for the comments Mack, I’ve actually checked out your blog and I don’t know about the community, but you do have a nice content. So for sure I’ll leave some comments on your blog, thanks for supporting and stoping by.
